- You can submit if you fall in any of the following categories, but it is not limited to this:
- Freelance or staff journalists
- Writers from any Africa-focused outlet
- Academics and researchers
- Subject-matter experts in any field
- What we publish
- Reported features, profiles, and essays on African issues
- Analysis of political, economic, and cultural trends
- Interviews with leaders, innovators, and changemakers
- Opinion pieces with strong, well-argued perspectives
- What we will never publish
- Unverified content, clickbait, or sensationalized stories
- Content that promotes hate, discrimination, or harmful narratives
- Press releases or thinly veiled advertisements
- Content that lacks proper sourcing or evidence
Your pitch should include:
- Working title and a brief summary of the story
- Why the story matters now or to a broader audience
- Who you plan to interview or what sources you'll use
- Estimated length (eg. 1,500-3,000 words) and delivery date
Important notes:
- We commission both pitch proposals and finished articles for the magazine.
- In all cases, your proposal should be no more than 200-300 words in length.
- We pay writers per article.
